Every "best digital marketing agency in India" list is written by an agency that put itself first. We are an agency too, so instead of another ranked list, here is how to evaluate one properly: where credible information actually comes from, real cost ranges, and the eight questions that sort the field.
Straight disclosure: Route Ignite is a digital marketing agency, so we are not going to publish a ranked "best agencies in India" list with ourselves at number one. Nearly every such list you read today was written by an agency that did exactly that.
What follows is the thing those lists leave out: how to actually evaluate a digital marketing agency, where the credible information comes from, and the questions that separate a good agency from a good sales call.
Three sources with real verification behind them, rather than a blog post someone paid to appear on.
| Source | What it verifies | What it does not |
|---|---|---|
| Google & Meta Partner status | That the agency is independently certified by the platform, checkable in each platform's own directory | Whether they are good at your specific category or budget size |
| Clutch / G2 reviews | Reviews collected through a verification process, often a phone interview | Recency. A glowing 2022 review says little about the team today |
| Their own client work | Everything that matters. Real campaigns, real sites, real results you can ask to see | Nothing, this is the strongest signal and the least used |
Ask to see three live client relationships, not case study slides. An agency confident in its work will offer this without being pushed.
The last question is the most revealing. An agency optimising for your budget over its own invoice will have an honest answer immediately. One optimising for billings will pivot to a pitch.
Account ownership is the other one that catches people out: if the agency owns your Google Ads account, your domain, or your website code, leaving them is expensive and slow regardless of how good the work was.
Indicative 2026 ranges. Anyone quoting far below these is either subcontracting the work or scoping something smaller than what you asked for.
| Service | Indicative monthly cost | What drives the range |
|---|---|---|
| Performance marketing (Google/Meta) | ₹40,000 – ₹2,00,000+ retainer, plus ad spend | Number of platforms, campaign complexity, ad spend volume |
| SEO | ₹30,000 – ₹1,50,000 | Site size, technical debt, content production needs |
| Website / e-commerce build | ₹60,000 – ₹15,00,000+ one-off | Custom vs templated, catalogue size, integrations |
| Full-service retainer | ₹1,50,000 – ₹5,00,000+ | Number of services bundled, team size dedicated to the account |
Retainers below roughly ₹25,000 a month for a real business are almost always automated reporting with minimal human time behind them.
Nobody controls Google's or Meta's algorithms. A guarantee means either branded traffic you already owned, or an invoice you will regret.
An agency doing real work has clients willing to speak. Reluctance here is one of the more reliable warning signs available.
If you cannot get a clear answer on what a specific rupee bought, that is the pattern, not an exception.
A cross-section of the brands we work with. Ask us for references in your category on a call.

There is no single answer, and any agency claiming the title is marketing rather than reporting. Verified starting points are the Google and Meta Partner directories, plus Clutch reviews. From there, judge on live client work you can check, named references you can call, and whether the agency answers the account-ownership and reporting questions clearly.
Performance marketing retainers typically run ₹40,000 to ₹2,00,000 a month plus ad spend. SEO runs ₹30,000 to ₹1,50,000. A full-service retainer bundling several services runs ₹1,50,000 upward. Anything well below these ranges for a real business is usually thin on actual human time.
If you only need one service done well, a specialist is fine. If marketing spans multiple channels that need to work together, paid, organic and the website, a full-service agency avoids the common failure where each vendor optimises their own channel and blames the others for the overall number.
What would you tell me not to spend money on right now. An agency confident enough to talk you out of spend is optimising for your result, not their invoice.
They are a genuine filter, not a guarantee. They confirm certification and, at higher tiers, real spend and performance history. They do not confirm the agency is right for your specific budget, category or team size, which is why the reference and reporting questions matter more.
